The Silent Caretaker
As the sibling of an addict, you often become a silent caretaker. Not in the way a parent might, but in your own quiet way. You worry when they’re out late, wonder if they’re safe, and sometimes step in when no one else will. You mother them in ways you never expected, picking up the pieces when their world falls apart. It’s exhausting, heartbreaking, but also instinctive. Because deep down, you know that if they fall, you’ll always be there, waiting to catch them, no matter how hard it gets.
Have you found yourself in the role of a caretaker for a sibling? What advice or words of comfort would you offer to others in the same position? Let’s start a conversation below!
